A fork from the original ForecastFox, this one features a larger radar tooltip. Living in the South, weather can change in an instant and this extension keeps me abreast. (I have always wanted to type ‘abreast’)
As an avid bidder and seller, this extension eliminates multiple trips to ebay.com during the day. I just click the eBay icon on the toolbar and eBay Companion loads all of my current bids, sales and watches without having to navigate away from my current page or open a new tab.
8. IE Tab
Let’s face it, some websites REQUIRE you to use IE. Well, that may be, but I still refuse to click the evil little blue icon…instead I click my IE tab icon and Firefox will render any website using IE’s engine - all inside Firefox.
Sure, most of us aren’t web designers - but a lot of us are. Even if you aren’t this extension can strip web pages of java, code, css and just about everything else under the sun. One tool I MUST have.
Never forget a password or struggle to remember one again. This extension allows you to export your passwords (with encryption if you want) at office and then install them at home.
Kicking off my top 5 is one of the handiest extensions ever. So you’re at your favorite adult website, maybe a TGP and there are 4 sample videos…rather than right click ‘Save As’, just right click onces and it downloads all movie, image or audio files at the same time.
It is well known that Firefox 2 has a ‘memory issues’. It happens after 4 hours or so of browsing. Geeks argue it’s caused by crappy coded extensions. Rather than read another blog about ‘memory issues’ or shut-down Firefox and reopen (thus loosing my tabs and slowly my wood), I just click File –> Restart Firefox. A few seconds later Firefox is running fresh.
3. FasterFox
Those will argue that this extension does nothing to make websites load faster - others say the speed difference is so minuscule no human could notice. Regardless, I use it and love to encounter websites with tell me that I have a “crappy pre-cacher and I should reload the page with it disabled”. It’s good to laugh once in a while, it makes the day go by faster in between using Download Them All.
2. Foxmarks Bookmark Synchronizer
Much like Password Exporter, this extension keeps me in-sync with my bookmarks regardless of where I am. I have a few hundred saved sites - and having them with me at home, the office or the laptop is reason number one I left Internet Explorer 3 years ago. Thank you Foxmarks.
Drumroll please……..
1. Adblock Plus
It was a toss up between Foxmarks and this extension…then I asked myself:
“When I install Firefox, what is the first extension I install?”
Hands down the answer is always Adblock Plus. No more ads, no more scripts, no more java, no more advertising - period! This is probably why it is one of the most downloaded extensions ever. It’s very customizable, you can disable it for certain websites and it remembers. It’s just the perfect extension in every way.
Still use Internet Explorer? Why? Download Firefox and view the web the way YOU want too.
