Anywhere there is Internet access I can check my email.
9. It’s Fast
Whether I’m on my MotoQ or laptop, it always loads fast.
8. A Rockin’ Spam Filter
I haven’t seen a single piece of spam in months. Enough said.
7. It Just Works
There is no ActiveX to install (hotmail) which means I can use Firefox, or any browser of my choice and it just works.
6. Attachment Handling e.g.; Virus Scanning/Google Docs
Any attachment is scanned automatically by Gmail’s virus scanner. Eliminating the need for 3rd party virus scanning. This is helpful on the go. If I receive a .pdf/.doc/.xls attachment Gmail allows me to either a) download b) view as HTML or c) view in Google Docs.
5. It’s The Perfect Catch-All
With virtually unlimited storage (I’ll get to that next) I forward my work accounts and personal accounts to Gmail. I don’t have to active-sync my MotoQ with Outlook, or check 3 different accounts on 3 different web-mail systems. When sending email from Gmail, it masks the “From” field so it looks like I’m sending it from my work account. Pure genius.
4. Virtually Unlimited Storage
About two weeks ago I only had 6,400MB…As of 11:46am on Thursday, May 8th I have 6,702MB (or 6.7 gigabytes) of email storage. Google just keeps adding storage space daily.
3. Google Talk
All my Google Talk contacts are on the Gmail start page. Just click on a contact who is online and a small pop-up opens and I can chat instantly. No extra software to install, there nothing to update it’s just there.
2. Search
From the people who re-invented the web search, finding an old email or contact is as easy as typing into the all to familiar “Google Search” box.
1. It’s Not Outlook
Outlook is a memory hog. Period. It’s like a tank. It has so many features it can’t help but lumber along at a snails pace - even on my QuadCore. I finally gave up and made the switch to Gmail full-time. I leave it open in Firefox ALL DAY with it’s own tab and I’ve never looked back. No more syncing, no more slow computers, no more waiting 3 days for Outlook search to find my email.
